To the Legislative Assembly of Ontario:
WHEREAS at a time when rent, groceries, and daily costs are already too high, students should not be asked to take on more debt;
WHEREAS a reduction in grants and an increase in loans will result in students graduating with more debt, making it harder to start a career, buy a home, or build a stable life;
WHEREAS increased student debt creates barriers for low-income students and discourages participation in post-secondary education;
WHEREAS students should not be forced to carry the burden of chronic underfunding in the post-secondary system;
THEREFORE, we the undersigned petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to reverse the recent changes to OSAP, restore and expand non-repayable grants for students in financial need, and work with students to ensure a fair, affordable, and accessible post-secondary system for Ontarians.
