To the Legislative Assembly of Ontario:
WHEREAS
- Our publicly funded hospitals have been chronically underfunded, causing a structural deficit of 1 billion despite being the most efficient in Canada;
- The Ontario Hospital Association has predicted that budget cuts imposed by the Ministry of Health will result in a reduction in services including closure of non-core inpatient services, and spending reductions in core inpatient services;
- Hospitals across Ontario, including in Hamilton, have already announced healthcare worker layoffs as a result of the budget cuts imposed by the Ministry of Health;
- Strategic, predictable, multi-year investments in our public hospitals are needed to eliminate hallway healthcare, reduce emergency department wait-times, and improve quality of care;
Therefore we the undersigned, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to:
Immediately reverse the budget cuts imposed on Ontario hospitals and instead make strategic investments to ensure adequate staffing, service delivery, and sustainability of our public healthcare system.
