Invest in Community Led Solutions - Kill Bill 6

To the Legislative Assembly of Ontario:
WHEREAS the homelessness crisis in Ontario demands immediate, evidence‐based responses founded on evidence, compassion, and community care;
WHEREAS every day, housing workers, outreach teams, and frontline service providers diligently assist those in need—often with insufficient resources;
WHEREAS punishing vulnerable people through fines or criminalization only worsens the crisis—housing is the real solution.
WHEREAS Ontario continues to bear the devastating burden of an escalating overdose crisis, with too many lives lost to a toxic drug supply and ineffective drug policies;
WHEREAS the recent closure of Hamilton’s only community-serving supervised consumption site has further heightened the risks faced by our community members;
WHEREAS criminalizing people is not a viable strategy to overcome a health crisis and only real, substantive solutions can protect life and dignity;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the undersigned, call upon the Ontario government to:
Immediately invest in and expand supportive housing units with comprehensive wrap-around services for people with complex mental health and substance use issues;
WE THE UNDERSIGNED, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to invest in Community Solutions and to repeal Bill 6.
