Create a Deposit Return for Non-Alcoholic Beverage Containers in Ontario

Ontario is one of only two provinces without a deposit return system for non-alcoholic beverage containers.

Meanwhile, in 2023, 98% of refillable beer bottles were successfully returned through the Beer Store’s program—proof that deposit systems work!

Right now, only 50% of beverage containers are recycled in Ontario, and far too many end up as waste in waterways, eventually breaking down into harmful microplastics that make their way into our bodies. A deposit return system would not only help reduce litter but also keep more recyclable materials out of the Blue Box, improving the overall recycling process by reducing contamination.

Add your Name to take action now and implement a province-wide deposit return program for non-alcoholic beverage containers.

Deposit return programs are cost-effective, efficient, and proven to boost recycling rates.

Other provinces have already implemented them successfully—why should Ontario be left behind?

We, the undersigned, call on the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to take action now and implement a province-wide deposit return program for non-alcoholic beverage containers.
