Invest in $10 per day Childcare Now
To the Legislative Assembly of Ontario:
Whereas parents and caregivers are worried about the future of affordable child care, and we share those concerns;
Whereas the Province must act quickly and finalize the $10 a day funding extension with the federal government. Stable funding is essential for supporting educators, strengthening the workforce, and ensuring high-quality, affordable child care for all. Ontario is far behind its goal of creating 86,000 spaces by 2026, and we need an all-hands-on-deck approach to get there.
We, the undersigned petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows:
- speed up the implementation of $10-a-day child care, getting more spaces online, while addressing the core problems preventing more spaces from opening;
- create a province wide strategy to guarantee the expansion of child care, creating 53,000 new, public or not-for-profit affordable child care spaces;
- remove the rules that limit municipalities in creating their own child care spaces and bring operators, and service sector managers together to create more child care spots;
- immediately begin to reduce fees for before and after school child care, and negotiate with the federal government to expand $10-a-day to school age childern
